The Ricoh Aficio MP 4054SP is an A3 black-and-white multifunction copier with printing and scanning. Ricoh rates it at up to 40 Letter pages per minute. Its combination of large-format paper handling, network output and expandable input is intended for offices that produce more than A4 documents.

Print and copy

The manufacturer lists a maximum print resolution of 1,200 × 1,200 dpi. Automatic duplex printing handles supported two-sided output. A3 paper support extends the machine beyond Letter and A4 documents for reports, charts and larger office forms. The 40 ppm figure is the rated Letter engine speed; larger sheets take longer to pass through the print path.

Paper handling

Base input totals 1,200 sheets across the standard trays and bypass. Ricoh’s optional feed modules raise the stated maximum to 4,700 sheets, which is useful where several paper types are required. The standard machine and the expanded configuration should be distinguished: the 4,700-sheet figure is only reached when the appropriate additional drawers are fitted.

Scanning and originals

The document feeder takes stacks of originals for copy and scan work, while the platen accommodates originals that should not pass through the feeder. Ricoh specifies colour scanning even though print and copy output are monochrome. Network scanning can deliver electronic files to office destinations. The colour touch panel provides access to copy, scan, print and device settings.

Connections and options

Ethernet networking allows the copier to serve multiple users. Additional finishing and fax equipment can be configured for the required workflow, but those functions depend on the options fitted to a specific unit.
