The Ricoh Aficio MP 401SPF is an A4-class monochrome multifunction printer for print, copy, colour scan and fax workflows. Ricoh rates output at up to 42 pages per minute on Letter paper. It combines a cassette, bypass path and automatic document feeder with network connectivity for shared office documents.

Print and copy

The print system is specified at up to 1,200 × 1,200 dpi; the engine’s 42 ppm figure refers to Letter sheets. Automatic duplex printing produces two-sided output on supported media. The machine handles paper up to Legal size, making it suitable for both standard A4/Letter pages and longer office forms. Monochrome printing and copying are separate from the device’s colour scanning capability.

Paper and originals

A 500-sheet cassette and 100-sheet bypass provide 600 sheets of standard input. Ricoh lists expansion to 1,600 sheets through optional feeders. The 50-sheet reversing feeder holds a stack of originals for copying, scanning or faxing. The reversing feeder handles multi-page originals, including two-sided sets, for copy and scan work. Extra paper feeders are accessories; the base paper capacity remains 600 sheets.

Scanning and fax

The MP 401SPF scans originals in colour and supports electronic distribution to office destinations. Ricoh lists colour network scanning as part of the multifunction workflow. Fax is included in the SPF model and supports Super G3 transmission. Network scanning and the automatic feeder help turn multi-page paper sets into digital documents.

Controls and connections

Built-in control panel provides direct control of print, copy, scan and fax tasks. Gigabit Ethernet gives the device a wired network connection, and USB support covers local interfaces. Standard memory is 1 GB. The rated engine speed and maximum input capacity describe different aspects of the machine: one is its output rate, the other requires paper accessories.
